Surgery

Dr. Price is on the active medical staff of Trident Medical Center, Summerville Medical Center, and Trident Surgical Center. The vast majority of our surgery is performed at the Trident Eye Surgery Center on the Trident Hospital campus. The Trident Eye Surgery Center is a state of the art facility dedicated to providing the highest quality care for cataract surgery and laser surgery.

All cataract surgery is done as an outpatient procedure usually using the current favored small incision, stitchless method with the insertion of an intraocular lens at the time of surgery. The Cataract is removed with an instrument called a phacoemulsifier which is an ultrasound device. There are currently no laser devices that are available to remove most cataracts.

Dr. Price performs several types of laser eye surgery as well as other non-laser procedures commonly performed by general Ophthalmologists. Dr. Price does not do refractive surgery because he has significant concerns regarding the long term consequences of the permanent alteration of the patient's cornea. There are some reversible procedures being developed which may cause some of these concerns to be greatly diminished. We will be happy to discuss with our patients their options for correcting refractive errors as well as our concerns regarding the current state of refractive surgery.
